And what is a dojo, you ask? Joe Hyams in his book
"Zen in the Martial Arts" says:

"A dojo is miniature cosmos where we make contact with ourselves -- our fears, anxieties, reactions, and habits. It is an arena of confined conflict where we confront an opponent who is not an opponent but rather a partner engaged in helping us understand ourselves more fully. It is a place where we can learn a great deal in a short time about who we are and how we react in the world. The conflicts that take place inside the dojo help us handle conflicts that take place outside. The total concentration and discipline required to study martial arts carries over to daily life. The activity in the dojo calls on us to constantly attempt new things, so it is also a source of learning -- in Zen terminology, a source of self-enlightenment."

FO: Mittens #1, #2 and #3

FO Report: #1 Mittens, #2 mittens and #3 mittens
Designer: ??
Pattern Source: Weekend Knitting
Yarn: #1: DB Cashmerino Super Chunky;  #2: Lamb's Pride Bulky; #3: Double strand of Jo Sharp Silkroad Aran

Needle Size:
US 10.5
Gauge:
 3 sts = 1"
Date Completed: Dec 2005
Recipient:  me, the Big Sweetie and my Mom

#1:

The DB Cashmerino Super Chunky got me into some trouble that I'll be blogging about shortly this week (by trouble, I mean that it's the kind of yarn that you'd give your firstborn for) ... but this was a great knit.  The light color isn't really idea for the mittens (see the smudges of dirt?), but they're great.  I added the long cord because I just couldn't resist ... but let's say that there's a reason that we make kids do this cord-thing in the sleeves, but not adults.  I'm removing it when I get too sick of it (very soon).

#2:

The Lamb's Pride version were fabulous, although the pattern called for only 110 yards ... and while Lamb's Pride Bulky has 125 yards, it wasn't enough.  I had to dip into a second skein, which I luckily had on hand;  otherwords, these were a perfect knit, and I expect to make more using this yarn, especially in the kid's sizes.

#3:

(Sorry, this was the best photo I guess that I took ... they've already gone to their home!  Trust me, they turned out great.)

Let me tell you that when I realized that I wouldn't be finishing up my mother's beaded bag (yes, that one on size 0000 needles) for Christmas ... at 8:30 PM Christmas Eve ... I cast on for hers and finished them just after midnight.  So, less than a 4-hr knit, which makes a great gift!   The double-strand version shows just how nicely these mittens knit up in double worsted weight.

(I think that double-strand is going to be my new best friend in 2006.)

Love the pattern! Love the pattern! Love the pattern! I'll definitely be making them in the kid size some day soon ... maybe with stripes?  Fair Isle?  With a fuzzy cuff?  The possibilities are endless.

I love the mittens! I agree with Marina, the Cashmerino must feel absolutely divine. . . .

Awsome mittens. I love em. I have some leftovers of the Lambs Pride Bulky. I think I've just found a use for them. :D
I didn't know you guys were talking about moving!! Where in WA? I hear it's lovely up there if you don't mind rain (yes, I'm emphsising the negative, don't want you actually moving there ya know).
Also, you aren't the only bad blogger that took no photos of our yarn spree. I think I even had my camera with me but never did take any photos. Oops.

I love the i-cord holding the two mittens together. I don't know if would like its functionality as an adult, but it is awful cute. I bet the Cashmerino is very soft on the hands.

They all look so great. The Cashmarino must be fabulous, but I can see how the string can get a bit obnoxious!

I'm with Marina - thinking about Cashmerino mittens, all I can say is "yum." Lucky hands!

Great mittens! Would you believe I am working on some from this very same book? I love me some Weekend Knitting.

I think the i-cord string is adorable! So retro :)

Definitely, Fair Isle.

Must feel like Heaven to wear the Cashmerino. Yum.
