And what is a dojo, you ask? Joe Hyams in his book
"Zen in the Martial Arts" says:

"A dojo is miniature cosmos where we make contact with ourselves -- our fears, anxieties, reactions, and habits. It is an arena of confined conflict where we confront an opponent who is not an opponent but rather a partner engaged in helping us understand ourselves more fully. It is a place where we can learn a great deal in a short time about who we are and how we react in the world. The conflicts that take place inside the dojo help us handle conflicts that take place outside. The total concentration and discipline required to study martial arts carries over to daily life. The activity in the dojo calls on us to constantly attempt new things, so it is also a source of learning -- in Zen terminology, a source of self-enlightenment."

A Knitter's List of New Year's Resolutions

1.  2006 will be the Year of the Stash.   (Okay, for those of you who know me or who have ever heard me talk about yarn or who have even read a past entry here on the blog ... you can stop laughing now.   But by "it", what I really mean is that I will do nothing but knit with my stash.  When the stash doesn't cut it, I can buy yarn only if I sell the equal number of balls of yarn that I'll be buying and if they cover the price of the yarn.  Thus, not really "buying yarn".  So, what do you think?)

2. 2006 will be the Year of Focusing on One Project Per Week (OPPP).  (This allows me a little bit of leeway ... we know that while I made this resolution last year and was at times woefully inept in following through with it, my best projects were completed with this in mind.  I might as well shoot for this in the next year as well.)

3. 2006 will be the Year of Twelve Sweaters.  (Note that I need to refine this by saying that I will "focus" on a sweater a month.  This means that I will try to complete one sweater each month, rather than let sweaters sit around half-finished for months on end [can anyone spell R-O-G-U-E?]. I should be able to spend through June just finishing up old sweaters.  Oh -- and baby sweaters count, as do kid sweaters.)

4. 2006 will be the Year of Fair Isle.  (Projects in mind:  1. The Fairly Easy Fair Isle;  2. Philosopher's Wool cardigans;  3. Maybe even an insane Debbie Bliss Fair Isle project?;  4. Definitely a pair of Fair Isle Mittens and/or Gloves;  5. Definitely some Fair Isle hat projects.)

5. 2006 will be the Year of Home Projects.  (I don't know about you ... but I feel like despite the fact that I knit every day, and some days more hours than is probably healthy, I don't really have *any* home accessories that are knit.  2006 is the year to change that!  Projects in mind:  1. A Stashghan;  2. At least 10 washcloths;  3. At least 3 dishtowels; 4.  Another afghan;  5. Pillows!;  6. another afghan;  7. maybe even a rug or two.)

6. 2006 will be the Year of Charity Knitting.  (More on this later ... let me just say that the Boulder Knitting Guild has taken the challenge on of knitting for the Denver Children's Hospital, and I'd like to contribute at least one item a month.)

7. 2006 will be the Year of Pattern Writing. (Given that I have at least four "designs" that need patterns to be formalized, why not make this a goal as well?)

What about you?  What are your New Year's Resolutions?

I just found your blog, and I love it! Nice resolutions - I also have a sweater resolution for this year - to make an adult sweater, and to have it actually fit it's intended recipient! Happy New Year!

Jenifer, can I just steal some of yours? Especially the charity knitting and stash busting ones?? I think one of mine is to attend a couple of our SnB meetings!

I look forward to seeing your patterns!

Impressive list! I don't think I could a one to one yarn trade, so more power to you!

I just want to say thank you again for coming and hanging out with me on Saturday while I was in town. It was great meeting you, hopefully when we get a chance to come back out to Boulder we can meet up again! Good luck with not buying any yarn, I'll be checking in on you and seeing how you are doing!

I'll join you with the year of the stash. Mine has become a bit overwhelming. I like your idea of working from the stash and only buying yarn if I sell some of the yarn in the stash.

Those are a lot of resolutions. I don't even have what mine are at this point. I guess to knit more? I dunno. Good luck on the year of knitting from stash.

I'm calling mine "goals" rather than "resolutions". I'm going to *try* to be very, very good in 2006 - especially where the stash is concerned. I wish you luck with your list. Just think... if you knit from the stash for a year, you can buy new stash this time next year!! Hope to see you on the 14th.

Oooh, you go, girl. These are wonderful resolutions and I have faith in you to carry thru with them!

I am still coming to terms with my quilting resolutions- and it may be too early for me to have knitting resolutions, though, lots of SEX for me...

What a great bunch of resolutions. I am still forming my own but I do know that I will shoot for 26 things for Warm the World (so proud that I finished 25 this year), use all my stash, and I have a feeling that this will be the year of socks and toys.

OMG! I know you can do it but, but ... ;-)

No real resolutions for me except to use more stashed yarn than newly purchased yarn and #6.

Happy New Year to you and yours.

My resolutions are still very formless! :)

Maybe you should sign up for the Stashalong - deadline to sign up is 5pm mountain time 1/1/06.
