And what is a dojo, you ask? Joe Hyams in his book
"Zen in the Martial Arts" says:

"A dojo is miniature cosmos where we make contact with ourselves -- our fears, anxieties, reactions, and habits. It is an arena of confined conflict where we confront an opponent who is not an opponent but rather a partner engaged in helping us understand ourselves more fully. It is a place where we can learn a great deal in a short time about who we are and how we react in the world. The conflicts that take place inside the dojo help us handle conflicts that take place outside. The total concentration and discipline required to study martial arts carries over to daily life. The activity in the dojo calls on us to constantly attempt new things, so it is also a source of learning -- in Zen terminology, a source of self-enlightenment."

FO Report: the "Rosy" Bolero

FO Report: Fiery Bolero (or, in my case,  the "Rosy" Bolero)
Designers:  Debbie Bliss
Pattern Source: IWK Summer 05

Yarn: Debbie Bliss Cathay, about 5.5 balls for size 35"
Needle Size:  US 5, 3
Date Completed: May 2006

After writing that list of must-knit-summer items, I gained some focus and decided to attack a bag of Debbie Bliss Cathay that was sitting in my closet.  I started this on a Thursday, and finished it on Tuesday -- it was an unbeievably fast knit!  I started to lose momentum on Sunday -- especially when I hit the shawl collar -- but I stuck to it, and I'm so glad I did.  I looove this knit!  I think that this will be the perfect little cover-up over tank tops and t-shirts this summer, and I can even envision wearing it all year long here in our mild Colorado winters.

Two minor caveats:
I'm now left with 4.5 balls of Cathay, or about 500 yards of DK-weight yarn, and I'm agonizing over what sort of a little lacey camisole that I could make with this much yarn.  Perhaps the Acorn Camisole?  Perhaps the **?  Perhaps a similar little number of my own design?  We'll see ...

Also, I was sitting and working on this during my little girl's ballet class when another mom asked me what I was working on.  I said, "Oh, a little bolero cover-up type of sweater" ... and she responded, "Like the one you're wearing right now?"  Yes, I was wearing my little pink
Elspeth at the time, and I didn't even realize the similarity!  Oh, well, I guess that means that I like this type of sweater and it'll see its share of use ...

more dorky photos ...

Hmm ... now, what to attack next?

Love the bolero! Sounds like it was a super satisfying knit. You know, I don't think you can have too many shrugs & boleros any more than you can have too many sweaters, scarves or hats. The curviness in the front is kind of unusual and very flattering. Maybe you should design a shrug a la Jenifer for Knitty?

[Hey, I visited Sue's new shop today after work and she mentioned you'd been there earlier! We're now both only minutes away from some Rowan.]

Hi Again!

I did not know where to reply so I thought I would drop a line here I hope that is okay I am still new to the blog etiquette. Here is our story:
We currently live in NorCal DH's father lived in Fort Collins for ages and DH has wanted to move to Boulder for years. Well after having DS I did not want to work (duh!) well I have been wanting to go indi forever...sooowe started looking at places went to Boulder and I fell in love so now we are moving out there. We already purchased a house in Gunbarrel closed on that at the begining of the month. Sold our house here now we are waiting on my husband to sell his business and then we are out there! For me it could NOT happen fast enough! I saw your bio in knitty and saw your blog and have been looking at other Denver area blogs because I would LOVE to know what is going on in the area, iykwim.

Okay now that I took over and wrote you a huge reply. :)

I cannot see what you knit up next!

It turned out very nice. Did you have to put a link to Elspeth? That rotten thing is haunting me. I just love it! Maybe I will have to go try it again....sigh. Haha, didn't we just talk about this?

So cute! I'd heard from Cathi that you were working on it and I've been dying to see! So nice to use up some of that stash, eh? So what other projects do you have planned for the summer? Don't you love dorky pics of yourself? I try to avoid looking at mine. :-)
